Emergencies & When You Are Gone

At the time you bought your home you completed a HOMEOWNERS INFORMATION SHEET,
which is kept on file and only available to members of the Board of Directors. Every 2-3 years you
will be asked to update this form. This form is VERY IMPORTANT as it contains EMERGENCY
CONTACT INFORMATION, and while we hope such information never has to be used – from years
of experience we know such information has had to be used. And it is most frustrating when it is not
current and can cause delays in rectifying the emergency.

Many homeowners list on their Homeowners Information Sheet relatives and friends as emergency
contacts, and that is all necessary and good information. The problem that occurs is that these relatives
and friends DO NOT LIVE HERE and sometimes emergencies require IMMEDIATE action.

So…we strongly advise that you identify a neighbor and/or a Board Member and provide them with a
key to your home or knowledge of where a key might be accessed, and/or provide them your garage
door code.

AND, this is also very important, please let that neighbor and/or Board Member know when you
are going to be gone, even if over the weekend so that in case of an emergency they can respond
accordingly and keep an eye on your home, collect your newspapers, etc.

SNOW-BIRDS, we ask that you advise the Board of Directors as to your approximate departure
before the snow flies, approximate return when the warm weather returns, how to access your home in
case of an emergency and who your local emergency contact will be, in addition to how do we get a
hold of you in case of an emergency.

When gone, arrange for your newspapers to be stopped or arrange with a neighbor to pick them-up for
you. A bunch of newspapers in the driveway tells intruders you aren’t home. Also be sure you make
arrangements for your mail if you are gone for an extended period of time-our mail boxes aren’t the
biggest!

Yes, we do have security cameras which have served us well with some petty-thievery and having the
cameras also reduces our insurance rates. Security Cameras can only do so much, each homeowner has
to take precautions and those mentioned in this guideline are a good start.

Some emergencies to date: numerous medical emergencies, thievery, attempted break-ins, garage
doors left open for lengthy periods, water problems in the home while homeowner away, weather
damage while homeowner away —- so it is always good to have a board member and/or neighbor
watching out for your home and for you.

We are a “Community of Friends” as the Website Home Page indicates, and watching out for one
another is what friends do, and we do so happily knowing that someone is also watching out for us.
